Group 4 Brainstorming

12 comments:

  1. WHATS UP GROUP 4!!! --- okay since there is no idea's thrown out there yet, i got to thinking about reporductive rights and the sterotypes that vary between certian demographics. Like the differences in the way it is viewed in one place, and how a differnt place might have different understandings. I know it sounds vague, but a viewing or insight of how people in the "bible belt" might view reproductive rights verses people who live in places like las vegas, or miami. Just to see where the difference between beliefs and values in different places, so we could maybe have a better understanding of why the terms pro life and pro choice continue to give us false notions. Just an idea, open for whatever!

  3. I like the reproductive rights idea. I think we can research a lot about it and have a lot to talk about when we give our presentation.

  4. I also like the idea or reproductive rights but I'll keep thinking about other possible ideas too. A video would be cool. I don't really know much about editing or making videos and stuff like that but I'm open to learning!

  5. I think a video would be great too because it would make it interesting, and I am also not very good at doing technological stuff with computers but Im sure we can figure it out! I think the reproductive rights topic is a good idea too, and if I come up with any then I will be sure to post them.

  9. Raising Awareness of Reproductive Justice
    Wednesday, April 27, 2011
    Project Conception:
We would like to bring awareness to people who are unfamiliar with the terms and ideas of “Reproductive Justice.” We would like to explore the way people perceive the issues of reproductive justice based on where they live, along with what reproductive justice represents as an overall idea. We would like to bring to light the issues and micro-aggressions associated with having to choose between Pro-Life and Pro-Choice and how reproductive justice allows a person to take responsibility in their own lives rather than being forced to choose a side. In doing this, we would like to help eliminate these terms entirely. Reproductive justice is bigger than abortion alone, but also addresses the conditions in an individual’s life which are shaped by their socioeconomic status, human rights violations, race, sexuality, and nationality.

    Project Method:
Our project method will be to display our findings in a video. We will be presenting facts and the idea of Reproductive Justice as well as interviewing people about their knowledge of reproductive justice and their own personal beliefs and stance on the topic. The people selected will be from different demographic areas and backgrounds, which will allow us to see many different perspectives on reproductive justice. This will deepen our discussion about the effects of reproductive rights and justice in different areas of the country.

    Project Contribution:
What this project will contribute to our class and the overall population will be to make them aware of Reproductive Justice and the ability it gives them to not have to choose between Pro-Life and Pro-Choice. It will show that there is more to reproductive issues than abortion, and that these issues are not black and white. This allows people to have a more open mind on the subject rather than having to fit into a certain mold that someone else decides for us. We will give people the opportunity to eliminate these terms and look at the woman as a whole rather than just in the sense of carrying a child or not.

    Individual Group Member Tasks:
    Ambre- Proposal Writer
    Rebecca- Proposal Editor
    Kevin- Film Editor
Alexandria- Collector of Artifacts and Critical Information
    Kim- Collector of Organization Information
Courtney- Collector of Sources and Relevant Bills
    Entire Group:
    Find one person to interview
Brainstorm questions to ask for interview
Participate in the making of the film
Work together to create awareness of Reproductive Justice!!!!
Agreed upon schedule of completion: Tuesday, April 26, 2011

  10. Great project conception. What I am missing, however, are some sample questions. Please run these by me before you do your interviews...and make sure you do not ask individuals personal questions regarding abortion, but rather keep them focused on individuals perspectives on the pro-life/pro-choice debate in general. Make sure you tie in the course texts to substantiate your arguments regarding a Reproductive Justice paradigm and what that means! Nice work, good luck. (and send me those questions, please!!)

  11. 1. Have you ever heard of the term "Reproductive Justice?" What do you think that means?
    2. Do you think reproductive justice is just a new name for pro-choice and pro-life?
3.What words come to mind when you think of pro choice or pro life?
4.What are your opinions on the planned parenthood shut down proposal?
5.Do you think demographic influences peoples opinion on abortions?
6.What activism have you seen on campus involving reproductive justice? What your feelings towards it?

  12. Alright, what's up group. After reading responses to e-mails, Ambre, Alex, and I have planned to have the entire group meet at a study room(if we can get one) in Gorgas, tomorrow ((Tues, April 19th)) at 10pm. Is that cool with the rest of the group?

We'll script out and organize the newscast in The library as a group, and then its lights, camera, action in the studio on Wednesday, also at 10 pm. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to land my interview with someone in the abortion clinic.
