Hi everyone! So when I read over the project ideas the one that I found the most appealing was interviewing community members or people around campus to see how they feel about an issue that we've discussed. For me the most intriguing topic that we've discussed has been reproductive justice. It was by far the fastest class period that I think we've had becuase there was such a good dialogue going on about it. It's a topic that I sruggle with because of my faith and I think that it would be interesting to see if any of us are able to form opinions on the issue or change any that we may already have. We could start with a converstaion/debate amongst ourselves and end with what we've learned through the process of interviewing. Just an idea!
Hello everybody, An idea for our group media project I thought may be cool was the art exhibit suggestion from the list. I think that would be a fun, hands on approach to what we have learned in womens studies. We would be able to express our individuality and what feminism means to us. Our art could help the community learn more about what feminism really is instead of just assuming feminism is bad. I do realize this may not be a great option because everyone may not be creative/ artistic. I also read over Jasmines idea about interviewing community members and think it is a great suggestion! This is also another way to spread the word about womens rights/ feminism.
Okay first off i have already requested everyone that i can find on facebook because thats the easiest way to stay connected but anyways i like both ideas but i'm leaning more towards Jasmine's because it could help us out in the long run... if we organize an event or even participate in one on an issue such as reproductive justice or even oppression on campus it could benefit us also by contributing to volunteer work
Hey guys Im soo sorry I couldn't make it to the group meeting during class time yesterday. I've been really sick and i just wasn't up to it, hope y'all understand. But an idea I thought about was the video we watched for one of the online learnings there was a testing for little kids when they picked between the two baby dolls. I thought maybe we could go to the same place that the education majors go to for classes or even just a local elementary school. Just a thought!! but I also like the other two ideas as well. I don't know if y'all decided on anything already so if anyone could fill me in that'd be great!! thanks!

“Homosexuality in Heteronormative culture”
In this group media project we aim to explore how homosexual individuals feel about living in a town where most people are heterosexual. We will interview many different homosexual individuals and try to capture the struggle and challenges faced by being an outsider in a straight, conservative community. In doing this project we will hopefully open fellow classmates eyes to this issue and make them more tolerant. We have chosen to use video and audio for our project method. In our project we will begin by asking heterosexual individuals questions from the “heterosexual questioner.” A few example questions that will be asked to heterosexuals will be: 1.When and how did you first discover you were heterosexual? 2.Is it possible that your heterosexuality is just a phase that you will just grow out of? 3.Why do you insist on flaunting your heterosexuality? Can't you just be who you are and keep it quiet? We will then continue the video by interviewing homosexual individuals in order to show how they are treated on a daily bases. A few examples we will ask in the interviewing process to homosexuals will be: 1.Have you ever been discriminated against because of your sexuality? 2.Can you think of a time where you felt particularly uncomfortable around members of the opposite sexuality? 3.Do you (heterosexuals) feel like all homosexuals are attracted to you? 4.Have you ever felt threatened by a member of the opposite sexuality? Our group media project will be presented to the class on Monday, April 18th. Even though this will be a group project and all of us will take equal parts in completion for this project, we have decided to split up the tasks in this way- 1.Jasmine Curlee, Deneara Pruitt, and Katy Gibson will be doing personal interviews. 2.Catrina Kattner and Sylvester Mckinney will be doing editing of the video footage and produce the finished project video. 3.Leigh Mills did not meet with the group but once she does the group will find a task for her. Our group is very excited to present our project and we hope that by choosing this topic it will open people up to homosexuality and allow more tolerant and open minded thinking.
This is a good start, but the proposal is a bit incomplete. I am unclear about your exact Project Method. It is a bit problematic to not identify how you will identify individuals as "homosexuals" to then interview?! Please rewrite this portion and resubmit it to me before you begin. Perhaps you might interview organizers and members of LGBTQ organizations on campus about their perspectives and experiences, with their consent.
Moreover, you jump from your first idea to then asking individuals questions from the Heterosexual Questionnaire. What do you hope to find out by doing this? Please provide a context for your inquiry. What course texts will you use to substantiate your project.
Again, please rewrite these sections and resubmit to me no later than Wed. 4/13 (although this leaves you little time to complete your project...so feel free to email me some clarifications this weekend before you proceed).
